Welcome

Gary Swift 7th Dan Kyoshi The British Wadokai was formed under the direction of Gary Swift 7th Dan Kyoshi in May 2007.

It is a friendly traditional Wado-Ryu Karate organisation providing a very high standard of support, guidance and benefits to all students and clubs that choose to join us.

British Wadokai has foundations that were established in 1976, therefore, the direct unbroken lineage of British Wadokai extends over 30 years. The Kyu grade syllabus has remained almost unchanged since the first introduction of Wado into the UK by Suzuki Tatsuo 8th Dan Hanshi in 1964 (this is the basis and foundation of British Wadokai). All Tai-Sabaki has remained intact, including Sanbon-gumite, Ohyo-gumite, and Kihon-gumite etc. All these aspects are taught and promoted strongly within all British Wadokai Dojo.

British Wadokai is affiliated to the English Karate Federation (EKF), which is the official Governing Body for Karate in England accepted by the World Karate Federation (WKF), JKF-Wadokai England (under the technical direction of Sakagami Kuniaki 7th Dan Honbucho), which is affiliated to the Federation of European Wadokai (FEW) and the Japanese Karate Federation (JKF-Wadokai).

British Wadokai for Individuals

We welcome individuals wishing to train with us - whether you are beginner or more experienced. Please take a look through our Clubs section to find a club near you. These clubs provide the opportunity to attend many specialist training courses held by highly respected instructors and enter more competitions, should you wish to compete.

For the most able and committed there is the chance to join the British Wadokai Squad and compete nationally. Ultimately, for the very best (from the age of 10) we provide a training path to the JKF-Wadokai England squads where you could represent England in Wado throughout the world.

British Wadokai for Clubs

British Wadokai warmly welcomes enquiries from clubs looking for a positive and genuinely supportive federation to affiliate to. We have outlined much of our key information on this website. Naturally you will have questions about the advantages and benefits of affiliating to us, so please feel free to contact Gary Swift for an informal chat & he will be very happy to help.
