Today, on the 29th of January 1982, Ohtsuka-Hironori Meijin, the founder of Wado-ryu Karate-do, passed away at the age 89; he had practised martial-arts for 85 years.

EKF Snr & Jnr National Karate Championships - Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
Time: 09:30 - 19:30
Notes: This is the 2nd EKF National Karate Championships, which will be held over two days. Day 1 will include all Kata for children, cadets, juniors and Seniors. The afternoon events will consist of 13 years and under Team and Individual kumite. Children’s team kumite will start before the Individuals weight categories. Day 2 will start with all the Team Kumite followed by the Open divisions then by the
Individual weight categories.

Wado Karate Summer Camp from 17th till 24th July 2009.
N. Nukina Sensei, Wadokai Chief Instructor of Romania and ALL Japan Champion '94 '95 is also invited to teach at the Summer Camp. We stay at Centerparcs "De Kempervennen" in the Netherlands. Different from previous years there is - apart from the 3 hours training in the morning (09.00-12.00hrs) - also an afternoon training! (15.00-17.00hrs).

WadoEXL – The Biggest Wado Extravaganza of the Year, to be even Bigger & Better for 2009! Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Master Class to be held on 2nd & 3rd of October 2009. Any students from any organisation or clubs are welcome to this class. Any age from 6 years up and any grade. All instructors will be instructing to the students skill level. All students will get the opportunity to train with all the instructors present. Closing date for pre-booking is the 22nd of September 2009. Or risk turning up on the day (Extra £5).

Other high grade instructors will also be instructing.

Competition Entry Information. To enter WadoEXL is very easy. Just decide on which categories you wish to enter, write them on a piece of paper with your name, address and association name in block capitals or download the form from the WADO EXL website www.wadoexl.info. Please print clearly and underline any competitor’s names that are in more than one category. Then post to the registration officer together with your registration fees. Your tickets will be sent back to you recorded delivery. We can not refund contestants that do not turn up on the day. All entries must be returned by the 22nd of September 2009. You may enter after this date but a late entry fee of £5 will be added to singles events, £10 for team events. All 1st 2nd and 3rd places will receive metal trophies.
Registration fees: Children girls/boys events £10.00 per entry. Adult/Cadet Male/Female £13.00 per entry. WadoEXL cup (Black belt only adults only) £15.00 per entry. Team events £20.00 per team (3+1). Send all entries to the registration officer:

Traditional British Wadokai Kata & Gyo Championships. (Horsham)
Open to all British Wadokai Clubs and Individuals. APPLICATIONS BEFORE 14th November 2009.
Venue: Tanbridge School, Guildford Road, Horsham, West Sussex.
Book-in: With Licence (for EKF Chit Number inspection), 9.30am. (No more bookings after 10.15am).
Eliminations: 10.30am.
Categories for all ages and levels. Events: Individual Kata, Pairs Kata, Pairs Gyo. The official Kata for will consist of British Wadokai (WIKF based) Kata: Pinan Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yodan, Godan. Ku-Shanku, Nai-Hanchi, Seishan, Chinto, Bassai, Wanshu, Ni-Sei-Shi, Rohai, Ji-tte, Ji-han, Ji-in, Suparinpei.
Gyo requirements – last between 60-70 seconds and possess no props/aids, etc. Due to location, it may be advised to bring a packed-lunch/refreshments etc.
Correct Dress Code: Competitors must wear clean white Gi. Judges must wear blazer, white shirt/tie, black trousers and soft footwear (no shoes), etc.
